Pump Stations

When traditional gravity sewer is not an option because of topography or current site layout, a pump station can be used to remove sewage. Pump stations generally consist of a Wet well, pump, and control system. Sewage arrives at a wet well by gravity. The sewage is then ground or separated, and pumped into a “force main”, or pressurized pipe. The sewage continues along the length of the pressurized pump until it is discharged, many times into a manhole which transitions the sewer back to a gravity-based pipe.
